Learning disability Assessment Scholarship

Request for Scholarship for Formal Assessment of learning disabilities

Background information

The New Hampshire Adult Education LD/ Disabilities Committee has limited funds available to assist adult learners in seeking a formal assessment of possible learning disabilities from a qualified diagnostician.

Criteria

To be eligible for consideration, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • The student is an active participant in an adult education program funded by the New Hampshire Bureau of Adult Education, attending regularly according to his/her educational plan, as certified by the adult education program director.
  • The student needs a formal diagnosis for the purpose of requesting accommodations on the GED Tests.
  • The student is over the age of 21.  (Rare exceptions may be made for a younger learner who for other personal reasons, such as moving from another location, is absolutely ineligible for school district support for assessment.)
  • The student is not eligible for other means of support for assessment such as private insurance, Vocational Rehabilitation, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • The student’s only potential basis for the accommodations he/she needs is through formal assessment for learning disabilities.  (For example, a student who seeks only extended testing time and who has another current diagnosis, such as anxiety, which can qualify for extra time may not necessarily need assessment to identify a learning disability.)
  • The student has demonstrated reading and/or listening comprehension levels that indicate the ability to succeed with accommodations.
  • The student has demonstrated an ability to perform significantly better and satisfactorily using the accommodations that are being requested.  (For example, a student may demonstrate this by taking official GED practice tests with and without extra time or by taking official GED practice tests on paper and with audiotapes.)
  • The student has met with the local adult education Disabilities Coordinator and the Disabilities Coordinator supports this request.
  • The student, with the assistance of the local Disabilities Coordinator must submit the LD Assessment Scholarship Application.

Decisions will be made by the New Hampshire Adult Education LD/Disabilities Committee within four weeks of receipt.  Members are Katie Delaney, Susan Katz, Robin Letendre, Pat Nelson, Lauren Osowski, and Debbie Tasker.
