Requirements for the New Hampshire High School Equivalency Certificate

A New Hampshire High School Equivalency Certificate is granted by the NH Department of Education to New Hampshire residents who successfully pass the GED Tests.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ISSUANCE OF THE NH HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY CERTIFICATE (as of January 1, 2002 )

  1. Minimum Test Scores: A minimum standard score of 410 on each of the five GED tests AND a total standard score of 2250, which is an average of 450 on each of the five tests.
  2. Residence: In order to receive a New Hampshire certificate, an applicant must have physically resided or had a legal residence within the state at the time of testing.
  3. Minimum Age: Applicants must be 18 years old. Students 16 and 17 years old may apply under certain conditions using GED Referral Form 1 for those in an approved GED Option program, GED Referral Form 2 for others Link to form above, slightly revised from current form or GED Referral Form 3 for home schoolers. They must be referred by an appropriate school official and must demonstrate that they have passed GED Official Practice Tests.

REQUIREMENTS FOR RE-TESTING

There is no specific waiting period, but applicants who do not pass all parts of the GED Tests are encouraged to seek additional preparation before re-testing.

METHOD OF APPLYING

Apply at any local official GED testing center (Contact Information and Local Testing Centers) by filling out registration Form B-21. Most centers require prior registration and some require proof that you have passed pre-tests. Contact the local testing center for information about test dates and registration requirements. You must provide photo identification when you register and when you take the GED test.
