GED
- WARNING ABOUT ONLINE
TESTING
There
is no way to take the official GED Tests online
in the United States. Online services that advertise
GED testing may offer GED preparation courses or
they may issue various types of certificates or
diplomas, but they CANNOT give the official GED
Tests developed by the GED Testing Service. If you
are considering an online high school completion
program, please check with a potential college or
employer to see if the credential you earn will
be acceptable.
Recently I have heard from two New Hampshire residents
who spent several hundred dollars to take online
high school programs. The certificates they received
from the online programs were not accepted—in
one case by a potential employer and in the other
case by a NH Community Technical College.
The
following advisory was provided by the GED Testing
Service:
Please be advised that the New Hampshire GED Certificate
of High School Equivalency can be neither earned
nor obtained via the Internet or through correspondence
programs. The Tests of General Educational Development
(GED Tests)--developed by the General Educational
Development Testing Service of the American Council
on Education (GED Testing Service)--require extensive
preparation and the demonstration of a high level
of high school knowledge and academic skills. The
GED Tests are administered in New Hampshire only
at Official GED Testing Centers under the direction
of the New Hampshire Department of Education, Bureau
of Adult Education. Any other high school equivalency
certificate not issued by the New Hampshire Department
of Education or another jurisdictional GED testing
authority may be of dubious value and may not be
accepted by employers, colleges and universities,
or the military.
